Movie Magic on Midvale’s Main Street

Most Utahn’s know that many places in our state are famous for Westerns and Sci-Fi movies. But did you know that several movies – many of them iconic – and TV shows have been filmed on Midvale’s Main Street?  Main Street is a popular filming location because of its historical authenticity. It looks like a movie set, but is the real thing!

Both professional and aspiring filmmakers come to Utah for its tax incentives and diverse scenery. Due to Midvale Main Street’s nostalgic any town USA feel, and availability of professional crews, production resources and talented actors, location scouts return to Midvale’s Main Street again and again.

We’d like to share some of the films and TV shows that showcase the sights and sounds of Midvale’s Main Street.

“The Sandlot” (1993)

 The Sandlot is a coming-of-age baseball film which tells the story of a group of young baseball players during the summer of 1962. A new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy team, resulting in many adventures.

Did you know?  Coca-Cola almost shut down the movie entirely – The soda company bought Embassy Pictures, the film’s original production company, and announced they weren’t going to fund Stand by Me just two days before they were set to start shooting. Television legend Norman Lear—who had worked with Reiner for years on All in the Family—was one of the three owners of Embassy prior to its sale. He believed in the project enough that he agreed to personally foot the film’s $8 million budget.

“Halloween 4 – The return of Michael Myers” (1988)

Ten years after his original massacre, the invalid Michael Myers awakens and returns to Haddonfield to kill his seven-year-old niece on Halloween.

Did you know? In 1988, the Writer’s Guild of America went on strike for 155 days beginning in March and ending in August. This impacted countless films and TV shows, including Nightmare on Elm Street 4 (the first script was written in 7 days and Halloween 4 (which at least had 11 days to finish its script).

 Vincent Drug (7696 Main Street)

Vincent’s Drugstore served as Brady’s after school job and THE go-to-place in Haddonfield for the hippest Halloween costumes. Jamie gets her Halloween costume at Vincent Drug store.


 Bucky’s Power Station (7642 Holden Street)

A technician named Bucky (Harlow Marks) was at the town’s power station, where he lost his life when the masked Myers threw him into an electrical transformer.

Midvale City Center (655 Center Street)

“Haddonfield Police Department” – After Michael Myers was captured by Deputy Sam Loomis, they took him to the police station.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

 Six years after Michael Myers (George P. Wilbur) last terrorized Haddonfield, he returns there in pursuit of his niece, Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris), who has escaped with her newborn child, for which Michael and a mysterious cult have sinister

 Vincent Drug (7696 Main Street)

Michael awakens from his coma covered in gauze bandages. As soon as he reaches Haddonfield, Illinois, he goes to Vincent Drug Store where he steals another “Shape” mask.





Andi Mack” TV Show (2016-2018)

 The hit series follows the life of 13-year-old Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her family and friends as she navigates the tricky terrain of early teen years. Andi finds herself questioning everything she’s ever known. The shakeup happens after her older sister returns home unexpectedly. A single camera series, shot like a motion picture, Andi Mack’s popularity is very clear, with season one nearing 40 million views on seven digital platforms.

“The Stand” TV miniseries (1994)

 Stephen King’s “The Stand” aired on ABC as a four-part miniseries. It starred famous actors and actresses such as Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Rob Lowe and others and was filmed in Midvale, Magna and other cities throughout Utah.

In Part 2 when Tom and Nick are in the road, Tom has a belly ache and Nick goes to get him some medicine. Nick goes into Vincent’s Drug store.
